Women's Basketball to Play at Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce

NOTES

NEW ORLEANS
– The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team continues with the second half of their conference schedule as they hit the road to Northwestern State and Texas A&M-Commerce. The Privateers will play Northwestern State on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be carried on ESPN Plus.

This week is also critical for positioning in the conference standings. The Privateers and their two opponents are all 5-5 in Southland play and are in a three-way tie for fifth.

The Privateers finished last week 1-1. They scored a win over HCU and swept the season series in the process. The most recent outing was a 64-54 loss against UIW. Nora Francois notched her second career double-double in a Privateer uniform with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Alexis Calderon has 54 steals this season and 28 against Southland competition. Calderon currently leads the Southland and ranks 31st in the nation in steals per game entering the week at 2.6.

DeArica Pryor is at 164 career steals entering the week. That puts her nine away from tying Shanna Cook (1992-95) for 10th place on the program's all-time steals list. Pryor is also at 925 career points at New Orleans entering the week.

Since conference play started, Zoe Cooper and Francois are both in the top ten in offensive rebounding. Both players are averaging just over two offensive rebounds per game and are tied for seventh in the league in that category. In Southland play, the Privateers as a team are fourth in the conference in offensive rebounds per game.

New Orleans is looking to avenge a 29-point loss against Northwestern State at Lakefront Arena. The Privateers and Lady Demons are tied at 15 wins each through 30 career meetings in program history.

On Saturday, the Privateers will look for a season sweep against the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions. The Privateers had their highest point total in a conference game in their early January win at the Lakefront Arena after they beat the Lions 88-78.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
The Lady Demons have been solid at home, posting a 6-3 mark at Prather Coliseum this year. They just recently topped Texas A&M-Commerce 69-66 last Saturday. Jiselle Woodson leads the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game but she did not play in the most recent outing.

Texas A&M-Commerce has also protected their home floor well with a 7-3 mark. Mia Deck and Jordyn Newsome have been big sources of offense especially since conference play started. Deck is averaging 17.3 points per game against Southland opponents while Newsome checks in at 14.0 points per game vs. conference foes.
