Men's Tennis to Open Southland Play Against Nicholls

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will open conference play on Wednesday when they take on the Nicholls Colonels at the Privateer Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.

New Orleans most recently played a crosstown foe in Tulane and lost 6-1 on Monday afternoon. Luke Joujan scored the point for the Privateers when he won his third set 10-point tiebreak by a score of 10-7.

New Orleans (3-5) has had a lot of success over the last two years in conference. They were co-champions in 2022 and outright champions for the first time in school history in 2023 after going undefeated in conference play.

Joujan leads the Privateers with four singles victories coming into the week. Matthew Armbruster, Sergi Tintore and Marcel Volz all have three singles wins this season.

The Privateers have won the doubles point in just one match this season (Mississippi Valley State). In singles play, New Orleans has five wins each at flight two and three. They've collected four wins at flight one.

New Orleans has won four straight matches against Nicholls heading into Wednesday. The last time the Colonels beat the Privateers was a 4-3 decision in Thibodaux in 2018.

After this match, the Privateers are not scheduled to play again for 10 days when they travel to A&M-Corpus Christi.

Nicholls (6-3) will also be opening their conference slate. The Colonels lost 6-1 to Tennessee State on Thursday which snapped a five-match winning streak. The Colonels' other two losses this spring have been to LSU and Jacksonville State.

Harry Collins and Antonio Sasso co-lead the team in singles wins. Collins has seven wins to one defeat while Sasso has seven wins and two losses.

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
