NEW ORLEANS - Despite a hard-fought 3-2 defeat to Southeastern in the Bayou Battle at Thibodaux, junior Ivana de Carvahlo de Peixe and freshman
Nikelle Lander showcased outstanding performances throughout the weekend going undefeated in straight sets.
Inclement weather disrupted the schedule, leading to the cancelation of the  matchup against Nicholls State scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
Against SLU, the Privateers' duo on courts two and four demonstrated dominance, securing points with convincing two-set victories. Seniors Valerie Vujnovich and Hannah Volpi battled through a challenging first set and pushed their opponents to 23 points in the second set before narrowly falling short.
The Lions managed to secure a point at court five against sophomores Renata Dykstra and Ashley Salazar. Meanwhile, junior Serena Baumgart and freshman Anne Marie Hardouin delivered an impressive performance, dominating the first set at court three by limiting the Lions to just 11 points. However, Maddie Shepston and Alexis Lagarbo responded with determination, edging out Baumgart and Hardouin in a tight second set.
As both teams rallied around their respective pairs in the deciding set, the Lions capitalized on the momentum from their second-set victory, ultimately clinching the match point with a 15-11 triumph.
NEXT UP: The Privateers will head east next week to face Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee Tech, South Carolina and North Florida in Columbia, SC.Â
