Sophia Wolf Breaks Another School Record in Baton Rouge

OFFICIAL RESULTS

NEW ORLEANS – Sophia Wolf broke another school record, the men's 4x100 relay team came close to breaking a second, and both 1500M squads had strong afternoons at the Keyth Talley Invitational on Saturday in Baton Rouge.

Wolf set her third school record this season and second at 600 meters. Sophia finished in 1:31.38 beating UNO's previous best time set by Latoya Harris in 2017 by over 12 seconds. The graduate student now owns the school's indoor and outdoor 600 meter records, as well as the indoor 800 meter record. Sophia finished in third behind LSU's All-American Michaela Rose - who broke the collegiate 600M record on her way to victory, and one second behind second place finisher Lorena Rangel Batres, also of LSU.

The men's 4x100M relay got things rolling for the Privateers at lunchtime on Saturday. Christopher Murphy, John Adesola, Darryl George Jr. and Madonna Favour finished third out of six teams with a time of  39.92 - just three tenths of a second shy of the school record. The time is the fourth fastest in school history, and currently sits No. 13 on the NCAA's performance list this season.

The Privateer women took home the top two finishes in the women's 1500M. Alexandra Weir and Rebecca DeKay ran stride for stride with each other for the entire race, pulling away from the rest of the field during end of the second lap. Weir won the race in 4:28.18 with DeKay finishing in second place at 4:28.40.

Those times are the fifth and sixth fastest times in school history and are top-50 individual times in the NCAA so far this season. DeKay finished eight seconds ahead of third place finisher Sophia Martin of LSU and set a new personal best as well.

Mason Appleton set a new PR in the men's 1500 with a time of 3:56.23 – three seconds faster than his time at last season's Southland Outdoor Championships. Gary Sandrock broke his personal best by a little over a second with a 4:05.13 in the same event, and Christian Francisco broke his 1500 meter personal best by about a second and a half with a time of 4:10.86.

Alimot Alowonle ran the third fastest 100 meter dash by a Privateer woman clocking in at 11.76 – just two tenths of a second slower than the school record times set by Euricka Hardy in 2019, and Vivette Green in 2022. Her time currently ranks No. 76 in the NCAA this season. Alowonle also placed in the top six of the women's long jump with a mark of 5.63 meters – set on her second jump of the afternoon.

In addition to running the opening leg of the 4x100 early in the day, Murphy matched his personal best with a 10.50 at 100 meters – his mark remains ninth on the school's all-time performance list and finished sixth in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.28 meters.

The New Orleans men took home second, third and fourth place in the 3000 meter race to close out the afternoon at Bernie Moore Stadium. Evan Pardo set a new personal best – 8:22.82 – and finished second, breaking the previous meet record of 8:39.84 set by Kansas' Treyson True last season. Josh Johnston finished in third with a time of 8:45.77. Alex Soileau finished fourth in 9:00.92.

The Privateers return to action next week when a selection of sprinters, jumpers and distance runners will travel to Austin, Texas for the prestigious Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The meet begins on Wednesday March 27 – further information on the Privateers schedule will be made available soon on UNOPrivateers.com.
