NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will play their last home match with Senior Day festivities to precede against Prairie View on Thursday at the Privateer Tennis Center. The regular season then concludes on Sunday at Lamar.
New Orleans (5-8) last played on Apr. 5 when they lost 5-2 to Tulane in the second matchup against the Green Wave this season.
Luke Joujan earned a singles point for the second time this season against the Green Wave while
Marcel Volz also earned a point in singles.
Joujan and Volz are both 2-1 against Southland opponents this season. The senior tandem have also paired together for a 2-1 mark against conference opponents in doubles. They will both be honored as part of Senior Day festivities. Joujan has earned all-conference honors in singles and doubles. He also has double digit wins in each of the last two seasons (2022 and 2023). Volz was a former Southland Newcomer and Player of the Year. He also earned Student-Athlete of the Year and LSWA Newcomer of the Year honors during his Privateer career.
Of the five freshmen on the roster,
Sergi Tintore leads the way with five wins. Tintore also has four doubles wins while paired with
Matthew Armbruster. Tintore and Armbruster have a 2-1 mark against conference foes.
Sunday's match against Lamar will determine third place in the Southland standings. The Cardinals are currently 0-2 in conference play. Bryant and NJIT, who are affiliate members, will be seeded in accordance with their ITA ranking.
Seven consecutive matches between New Orleans and Lamar have been decided by 4-3 score lines. The Privateers have won the last three decisions against the Cardinals including the semifinals of the Southland Tournament in 2023.
