Men's Tennis Begins Southland Tournament Against Bryant

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will begin their journey in the Southland Tournament as the 6-seed when they take on the Bryant Bulldogs. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Mabry Tennis Center.

The Privateers finished the regular season 6-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Their most recent match was a 5-2 loss against Lamar that saw a hotly contested doubles point. Marcel Volz and Joseph Townes earned singles points for New Orleans on the day.

New Orleans has had great tournament runs the last two years. They've appeared in the championship match both seasons and won the crown when they hosted the Southland Tournament in 2022.

Marcel Volz and Luke Joujan have spearheaded the squad this season in singles and doubles. The duo paired up for a 3-1 conference mark in doubles. They most recently slid up to flight one and defeated Lamar's top pair of Max Amling and Leon Nickel 6-1. Their only conference loss in doubles was in a tiebreak against regular season champion, UIW's Tomas Reche and Emilio Vila.

In singles, Volz has posted a 3-1 mark. All of his conference wins came in straight sets against Nicholls, UIW and Lamar. Overall, Volz finished a regular season that featured tough competition with a singles mark of 7-5.

Joujan also had a 7-5 mark that included two singles wins over Tulane. In singles, he knocked off Harry Collins of Nicholls and Etienne Marty of A&M-Corpus Christi. Joujan played exclusively at flight two during the 2024 campaign.

Sergi Tintore led the freshman class with six singles victories. Townes finished the regular season with five wins in his first year on the Lakefront. In doubles, Tintore and Matthew Armbruster posted two conference wins against Nicholls and A&M-Corpus Christi.

Bryant finished the regular season 12-6. They finished the regular season with three straight wins against Villanova, Sacred Heart and Holy Cross. Senior, Diego Serra Sparrow was nearly unbeatable while playing mostly at flight three. He accrued a 14-1 record in the spring. Myles Peterson finished 11-5 while playing the majority of his matches at flight five.

The winner of this match will take on either 2-seed NJIT or 7-seed Nicholls on Friday.
