DAY ONE RESULTS
OXFORD – Another school record fell and the New Orleans Privateers set seven personal bests on a beautiful opening night of the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Mississippi.
Sophia Wolf kicked off the evening session at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex with a fourth place finish in the 800 meter invite finishing with a time of 2:07.32. Wolf ran in a pack with first place finisher Madison Husley, second place finisher Jo-Lauren Keane – both of Ole Miss – and Kimone Campbell of ULM. Sophia's time currently ranks No. 66 in the entire NCAA, No. 40 in the East region, and No. 12 in the South Central region.
Her time on Friday night breaks the mark of 2:10.3 set by teammate
Alexandra Weir in 2022. Weir finished sixth overall in the 800 meter invite on Friday with a season best time of 2:12.17 – now the fourth fastest time in school history. Wolf now owns the school record at 600 meters both indoors and outdoors, and both 800 meter records as well.
Helen Baumgarten got off to a fantastic start in her first career heptathlon scoring 883 points in the 100M hurdles with a time of 14.69 – winning her heat and good for a second place finish overall. Baumgarten also finished second overall in the 200M race with a time of 25.52 giving her another 840 points. Through four events she sits in fourth place with 2,735 points – 259 points behind the leader Netanya Linares of Western Kentucky.
Ida Danner and
Agnes Danner finished four and sixth in their first career 3000 meter steeplechase races. Ida finished in 11:11.30 and Agnes finished in 11:14.16 - those times are third and fourth on UNO's all-time performance list.
Michelle Folk set a new personal best in the women's 5000 meter invite finishing in 18:07.87. Folk finished in second place on the night - a position she held from the opening gun to the finish line.
Sarinity Bracey, running her first outdoor 200M of her collegiate career, beat her previous indoor personal best by almost five tenths of a second after finishing in 25.42.
Three throwers set personal bests as well - freshman
Tyler Mitchell broke his previous best javelin toss by over three meters with a throw of 41.95 meters.
Jannah Sharpe hit 42.68 meters in the women's hammer throw to set a new career best, and
Trace Williams broke his previous best for the second time this season with a javelin throw of 49.6 meters.
The Privateers return to action tomorrow morning at 10:15 a.m. when Baumgarten starts the second portion of the women's heptathlon. Tomorrow's full day of action can be viewed live on
