NEW ORLEANS – After a stellar year on the track Privateer sophomore hurdler
Jorim Bangue was honored for his work in the classroom by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association this week.
Bangue was named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA after compiling a 3.6 grade point average during the spring semester. He currently has a 3.413 grade point average while working on his undergraduate degree in marketing.
His best 110-meter hurdle time was a 13.878 which earned a silver medal at this year's Outdoor Southland Conference Championships where he was named second team All-Southland. That time also ranked No. 21 this season on the NCAA East qualifying list, No. 3 in the Southland and is tenth fastest time in school history. Jorim was also the Southland's gold medalist in the 60-meter hurdles during the indoor season.
To earn All-Academic status from the USTFCCCA a student-athlete must maintain a 3.2 grade point average over the most recent grading period, and either finish in the to 25% of their NCAA regional or earn All-American status at the NCAA Championship.
In addition, both men's and women's programs were named All-Academic teams for their achievements in the classroom as well. The men's program currently possesses a grade point average of 3.14 while the women's team finished with a 3.52.
To earn All-Academic team status the cumulative grade point average of an institution's NCAA indoor and outdoor squad lists must be at 3.0 or higher.
