NEW ORLEANS – Four New Orleans Privateers student-athletes had to wait almost five hours longer than originally anticipated to make their debut on the first day of the Grover Page Classic hosted by UT-Martin.

The Privateers finished the first 18 holes with a team score of 304 and made 14 birdies as a team, including the three that Garrett Trahan made while playing as an independent.

Once again Matt Weber had the best round for the Privateers after shooting a 2-over-par 74. Weber sits tied for 57th after making a trio of birdies on Monday.  It was the eighth time in his 16 rounds as a UNO Golfer that Weber had the best round on the UNO scorecard.

Of the four newcomers Max Fiesmantle had the best afternoon. Starting his UNO career at the No. 3 position in the lineup the Louisiana transfer shot a 3-over-par round of 75. He led the Privateers with five birdies on Monday after converting chances on holes one, five, 12, 17 and 18.

Garrett Trahan sits tied with Canon Clark for 76th after the opening round score of 76. "Big Red" made birdies on holes three, seven and fourteen to kick off his career on the Lakefront, while Canon made his sole birdie on hole 15.

Rounding out the scores for New Orleans were Jude Bourque's 79 and Adam Trahan's 82 – both making their Privateer debut. Bourque had a pair of birdies on Monday afternoon.

The final round of the Grover Page Classic tees off tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. New Orleans will be paired with Tennessee State and the University of Southern Indiana.

Live scoring will be available on Clippd Scoreboard here. Fans can follow @privateersgolf on X/Twitter and Instagram for updates.

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"It was good to get some new guys a look today. I really didn't know what to expect with four guys making their debut. Just like week we continued to be really sloppy with our iron shots. We need to find a better focus in our execution and in our course management. I believe these early reps will give us much needed experience and we will be better because of it down the road."

WE ARE YOUR KREWE
For 54 seasons, Privateer student-athletes have had the unique experience of wearing New Orleans across their chests.  Like the city itself, our sports teams have been fueled by resiliency, grit, and the unquenchable desire to win.  Our city also houses the nation's biggest celebration each year. And much like a Mardi Gras parade krewe, we are tethered to our community through pride, tradition, a culture of acceptance, and finally our commitment to show that New Orleans is a world-class city to live, learn, play, and work. We invite you to become more involved with the only University that truly represents New Orleans all day, every day.  Join #NOLAsTeam, We Are Your Krewe!
