NEW ORLEANS – Two years ago, the University of New Orleans women's cross country team won their first Southland Conference Championship at Nicholls Farms. On Saturday morning, they once again excelled on the bayou, taking home both the team and individual championships.

Five Privateer women finished in the top ten, six in the top 11, and all placed in the top 20 on a beautiful morning in Thibodaux, La. Their total of 30 points was the lowest in nearly a decade, dating back to a 23- point performance at the 2015 UNO Relays. With this victory, the New Orleans women have now won 31 events in program history.

Sophia Wolf became the first UNO woman to finish first in a cross country race since Arina Kleshchukova took the Southland title in 2019. Wolf finished ahead of Tulane's Anna Schadel with a time of 17:47.41, marking the 31st individual race victory in school history. Including her performances on the track, Saturday morning was Wolf's sixth race win in her brief UNO career.

Emma Bourg finished fifth with a time of 18:06.06, improving her personal best in the 5K by four seconds. Freshman Petra Imre also made a strong debut at the distance, finishing seventh in her first collegiate 5K with a lifetime personal best of 18:10.56.

Irene Bonanomi shattered her previous personal best with an improvement of nearly 13 seconds, finishing eighth in 18:15.66. Rounding out the top ten for the UNO women was Oxana Bonjorn-Giros, who placed ninth with a personal best of 18:21.23.

Michela Papalia finished right behind Oxana in 11th in 18:29.83, and Annika Metzger finished 17th with a time of 18:54.37.

The New Orleans men also had a strong performance on Saturday finishing in second place with 64 points – trailing only the SEC's Alabama. Four of the five Privateer men who ran the four miler on Saturday morning finished inside the top 20 and Antonio Delgado finished 22nd.

Josh Johnston led the way, and set a new school record, for the UNO men with a fifth place finish in 19:47.44.  The Australian broke Kolyn Saltzman's record of 20:18.8 set in 2019.

Brothers, Hunter and Mason Appleton also put top-10 marks in the UNO record books. Hunter's time of 20:30.79 was good enough for 14th place and ranks fifth in school history. Mason's time of 20.41.79 placed him 16th and is the sixth fastest four mile time in school history.

Gary Sandrock finished 20th with a time of 21:08.89, and Antonio Delago rounded out the scoring for the Privateer men with a time of 21:15.82 – good for 22nd overall.

Evan Pardo, running unattached, finished second in 19:25.85, while former Privateer Holly Hedrick placed 47th in 21:16.30, competing as a graduate student for Loyola (New Orleans).

Next up for the Privateer Cross Country team is a trip to College Station, Texas, for the Arturo Barrios Invitational on October 18. The men's 8K is set to start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women's 6K at 9:15 a.m. Information on live timing will be made available closer to the race, and fans can always follow @privateerstfxc on Twitter/X and Instagram for updates throughout the morning.
