NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans golf team used its first round of par or better this season to move two spots up the leaderboard of the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon. Through two rounds New Orleans is in tenth place with a two-round score of 583.
Maximilian Wojciechowski and
Tom Watson were the top performers for New Orleans on Monday – both carding a 1-over-par 145. Wojciechowski made the fifth eagle (third as a Privateer) of his collegiate career on RidgePointe's 521-yard sixth hole during the second round. Watson made the first eagle of his time on the Lakefront on the 506-yard fifth hole, also during the second round.
Max became the first Privateer to have an individual round below par this season after finishing the second round at 1-under-par. The German finished with a flourish with a final stretch of birdie, eagle, par, birdie, par to close out.
Watson was oh-so-close to his first round under par as a Privateer. A late sequence of eagle, birdie, par, par had the Liverpudlian sitting at 2-under-par for round two before a double bogey on the final hole of the day.
Playing in just the second tournament of his collegiate career
Taylor Boasberg got hot late in the first round with birdies on four of his final seven holes, including a span of three in a row taking his score from 4-over par to 2-over par. The former Jesuit Blue Jay shot even par during round two – the first round of par or better of his career, and co-led the team with seven birdie putts converted.
Rounding out the scoring for the Privateers were
Matt Weber who shot a 147, and
Britton Khalaf who shot a 157 in the first two rounds of his Privateer debut. Like Boasberg, Weber finished with seven birdies, while Khalaf had two.
Every Privateer competing improved at least one stroke between the first and second round with Wojciechowski three strokes better. Combined the Privateers were good for 109 pars, 25 birdies, and a pair of eagles.
The Privateers return to action for the final round tomorrow at 7:45 a.m. Fans can follow along

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"I think we definitely took a step forward today. I was incredibly proud of how we played this afternoon. We didn't start off very well but the guys fought hard through some adversity and put up an even par round."
"We all need to get off to a better start tomorrow and keep the pedal down and hopefully make a big move. I feel that we are close to putting up a really good round and hopefully tomorrow is the day."
