Volleyball Heads to Tallahassee for Florida A&M Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team (1-2) will head down the Florida panhandle to take part in the Florida A&M Invitational. The Privateers will face Jacksonville and Florida A&M on Friday. The weekend closes against an in-state foe in Southern on Saturday.

PREVIEW
The Privateers finished their opening weekend on a high note with a victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff to close out the Gamecock Classic at Jacksonville State. The Privateers led 69-47 in kills and 97-80 in digs against the Golden Lions.
 
Defne Eciroglu earned her first All-Tournament mention when she went for 38 assists and 11 digs in the win against UAPB. Eciroglu finished the weekend with 59 assists and 24 digs.
 
After the opening weekend, the Privateers had five student-athletes range from 20 to 27 kills. Courtney Roundtree led the team in kills and blocks (10) over the first three matches. Chelsea Daffin had 23 kills and 35 digs. Ava Kennon went for 22 kills with a .348 attack percentage. Jaedyn Newman and Divine Muo had 21 and 20 kills respectively.
 
This weekend marks the last non-conference matches on the road. New Orleans will subsequently return home for the following two weeks.
 
After the first weekend, New Orleans landed fifth of 12 teams in the newly expanded Southland Conference. The Privateers had 14.67 digs per set as a team. Dayla Ward finished with 30 digs in her third collegiate match. Lani Alleman added 20 digs.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Jacksonville won their opening match of the season against Southern but suffered two losses after that to Southern Miss and Northwestern State. Alicia Roth was announced as the new head coach of the Dolphins in January. Cami Kelsay led the team in kills over the first weekend with 32.
 
Florida A&M (2-2) won a five-set battle against North Florida at home on Wednesday. The Rattlers hit .393 in the fourth set and .353 in the fifth to rally back from a 2-1 deficit in the match. Brooke Lynn Watts has 51 kills through the team's first four matches.
 
Southern (0-4) has taken a set from three of their first four opponents: Jacksonville, Northwestern State and McNeese. Tamara Chavez has 33 kills, which is more than double the total of Bailee St. Romain who is second on the squad with 16 kills.
