Women's Basketball to Host HCU, UIW

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will play a pair of games with a revamped schedule after the snowstorm from earlier in the week. The Privateers will face HCU on Saturday (2 p.m.) and UIW on Monday (4 p.m.).

Both games are at the Lakefront Arena and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

New Orleans picked up their first win of the season last Saturday when they gutted out a 66-62 overtime victory over the East Texas A&M Lions. It was the first overtime victory for the Privateers since 2020.

Four Privateers went for double figures, which was a season-high. In her third game back from injury, Brianna Ellis went for 14 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field. She also added five rebounds and three assists. Alexis Calderon led the Privateers with 15 points.

In the last six games, the Privateers have had 100 offensive rebounds. In conference play, the Privateers have hauled in more offensive rebounds (15.6 per game) than anyone in the Southland. Second on the list is Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (12.0 per game).

Brialle Washington has scored 49 points in her last three games and has come off the bench for two of those games. Washington had a season-best 18 points in 22 minutes against Northwestern State. In the last three games, her scoring average has gone from 4.3 to 6.2 points per game.

New Orleans and HCU have met twice in a season in 2022-23 and 2023-24. In both occurrences, a season sweep happened. HCU took both meetings in 22-23 and the Privateers won both contests in 23-24. HCU leads the all-time series 8-6.

New Orleans and UIW are tied in the all-time series at 9-9. The Cardinals are on an active four-game winning streak dating back to the 2023 season. Six of the last seven meetings between the two sides have been decided by six points or fewer.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
HCU broke a seven-game losing streak in their last outing when they defeated UTRGV 67-64. The Huskies had their lowest turnover total (9) in a game this season in the victory. Erin Maguire leads the team in scoring at 10.7 points per game while Tiffany Tullis is averaging 9.8 rebounds per contest.

UIW is in fourth place in the league standings at 5-3 coming into the weekend. The Cardinals have won three straight games and just came off a 76-58 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Jorja Elliott is the team's leader in scoring at 10.3 points per game and is shooting 40.3 percent from three-point range this season. Elliott is one of two Cardinals who have started every game this year along with Raimi McCrary.
