NEW ORLEANS – For the second time in program history, the University of New Orleans golf team will travel to Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Killen, Alabama, to participate in the Turtle Point Invite, Oct. 13–14.
New Orleans finished 14th at the TVA Credit Union Invitational nearly 15 years ago with a score of 933. Steve Vail led the Privateers with a score of 288 under then-head coach Chris McCarter.
Through the first three tournaments of the fall, New Orleans is averaging 289.77 as a team, with two sub-par rounds.
Matthew Lotz, the current Southland Golfer of the Month, averaged 70.16 and recorded five rounds at par or better last month.
Both Lotz (71.3) and
Garrett Trahan (71.8) are averaging under 72, with
Tom Watson close behind at 72.2. Combined, the trio has recorded eight individual rounds under par this season.
FORMAT
The teams will play 36 holes of golf on Monday, and 18 on Tuesday. Both days will feature the shotgun format with tee times at 9:00 a.m.
The following schools are confirmed to compete in the event:
Alabama A&M (hosts), Alabama State, Evansville, Missouri State, North Alabama (A and B squads), Southeastern, Samford and Wallace State.
Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Memphis, Troy and Vanderbilt will be sending individual golfers as well.

Tom Watson and
Matthew Lotz finished tied for 15th and 23rd, respectively, leading the University of New Orleans golf team to a ninth-place finish at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate. Watson finished his final round with two birdies in three holes for his fourth round under-par this season. Lotz opening round score of 71 was his sixth round at par or better in his opening seven rounds as a Privateer.
