NEW ORLEANS – University of New Orleans golfers
Tom Watson and
Matthew Lotz finished inside the top-25 for the second week in a row and the Privateers finished tied for fifth with a score of 881 at the Turtle Point Invite on Tuesday afternoon.
For the second time this season, Watson set a new career 54-hole low after finishing 6-under par. The senior from Liverpool improved by two strokes each round—starting at even par in the opening round, shooting 2-under in Round 2, and 4-under in Round 3. His third-round score of 68 is also a new personal best, surpassing previous rounds of 69 recorded both this season and last. Tuesday also marked the first top-10 finish of his collegiate career.
Lotz notched his second straight top-25 finish after finishing at 1-over par. He used a stretch of four birdies in five holes during Monday's opening round to card a 69. Lotz now has a round in the 60s in three of his four tournaments on the Lakefront.
Adam Trahan tied for 49th after finishing with a score of 225 for the second straight tournament.
Jude Bourque tied for 67th after shooting a 236, and
Garrett Trahan tied for 72nd with a 243.
As a team, New Orleans was second-best in the field on par-3 holes, averaging 3.18. The Privateers combined for 38 birdies and 159 pars. Watson led UNO with 13 birdies, while Lotz added 10.
Adam Trahan tied for the fifth-most pars in the field with 37.
North Alabama's A-Team won the team title at 22-under par—20 strokes ahead of Southeastern. Brycen Jones, playing as an independent from Alabama, won the individual title by one stroke at 16-under, edging Logan Reilly (15-under), who competed independently out of Auburn.
New Orleans wraps up the fall portion of its schedule Oct. 20–21, when the Privateers travel to Mathews, Louisiana, for the LA Tour Intercollegiate.
