Volleyball Sets Sights on Three Match Texas Road Trip

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers volleyball team will hit the road for a one-week swing that encompasses three matches when they face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTRGV and HCU.
 
Through six matches in conference play, the Privateers are in a three-way tie for seventh place in the standings. New Orleans is coming off a 3-0 win against Northwestern State where they registered their third highest hitting percentage in a match in program history at .535.
 
Alessandra Meoni registered back-to-back double-doubles last week for the Privateers when she had 13 kills and a season-high 25 digs against East Texas A&M followed by a 13-kill, 11-dig performance against Northwestern State. Meoni has six matches with 10 or more kills on the season.
 
The Privateers are fourth in the conference in digs on the season at 15.54. Their 84 digs against East Texas A&M last Thursday were six away from the most digs registered in a three-set match.
 
Individually, Peyton Cole leads the team in digs per set at 2.80. Vanae Sapp has 2.76 digs per set. Sapp has 47 digs in her last three matches and Cole has notched double-digit digs in five of her last six matches.
 
The Privateers are 2-14 all-time against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The last Privateer win over the Islanders was in 2022. New Orleans is 2-17 against HCU with their most recent win against the Huskies coming in 2019. Since UTRGV was formed in 2012, the Privateers are 1-2 all-time against the Vaqueros.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is the defending Southland postseason champion and they have the fourth best hitting percentage in the league at .234. Three Islanders rank in the top ten in the Southland in hitting percentage entering the week with Tatum Mason (.357) pacing the conference.
 
UTRGV is in a tie for second at 5-1 in league play. The Vaqueros have the best hitting percentage in the league at .255 and the third most kills per set at 16.61. Isabella Costantini co-leads the conference in assists per set at 9.80 and is second in total service aces with 30.
 
HCU also sits at 5-1 in Southland matches with their first loss coming in their most recent match to UTRGV. Peyton Fadal is tied with Costantini for the most assists per set at 9.80. Allana Archie is one of seven players in the Southland with over three kills per set on the season.
