NEW ORLEANS — Back-to-back rounds below par capped an outstanding performance by the University of New Orleans golf team at the LaTOUR Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. The Privateers' three-round score of 852 was their lowest at a par-72 course since 2009 and the fifth-lowest 54-hole total in program history.
Garrett Trahan (6-under),
Max Feistmantl (3-under) and
Matthew Lotz (1-under) all finished their third rounds under par. UNO's score of 279 on Tuesday ties for the ninth-lowest single round in team history and marks their best round at a par-72 course since the 2021 Golfweek Fall Challenge.
Both Lotz and Feistmantl finished tied for 13th overall with final scores of 212. After rounds of 70, 71 and 71, Lotz became the first Privateer to shoot all three rounds of a tournament below par since Kyle Bennett at the 2023 Colin Montgomerie Invitational.
Lotz finished the fall with an average of 71.3. Eleven of his 15 rounds this fall were at par or better, with seven rounds below par. His 54-hole best was 210, and his single-round best was 67. The Cape Town native posted three rounds below 70 this fall.
Feistmantl's third-round score of 69 was his second round below 70 this season and his fourth round under par. He finished the tournament with an eagle on hole three during the second round and 13 birdies overall. His final score of 212 was a personal best—one stroke better than his finish at this season's Grover Page Classic.
Tom Watson's strong fall continued at the LaTOUR Intercollegiate, as the Liverpudlian finished with a score of 216. Watson opened with a 74 but bounced back with a second-round 69—his third round below 70 this fall. He finished the event with one eagle and 13 birdies.
Watson wrapped up the fall with a scoring average of 71.7. Ten of his 15 rounds were at par or better, with seven rounds under par. He carded rounds in the 60s in three of UNO's five tournaments this fall.
Garrett Trahan also rebounded after a slow start, opening with a 79. "Big Red" improved by six strokes in the second round and by seven more on Tuesday afternoon. His final-round 66 matched his career low, previously set during the third round of this season's Grover Page Classic. The Sulphur, La. native posted a blemish-free scorecard with six birdies and 12 pars.
East Texas A&M won the team title with a score of 827, while Midland College's Scott Park was named individual champion after defeating East Texas A&M's Janis Erll in a two-hole playoff. Both finished at 203.
New Orleans concluded the fall season with a 24-31-3 (.463) record, including a 7-7-1 (.500) mark against Southland Conference competition. The team averaged 289.4 across five tournaments and 15 rounds—on pace for the second-lowest season average in program history. The 2023–24 team holds the record with a 288.6 average.
The Privateers return to action this spring when they host the Gulf Coast Collegiate at Bayou Oaks at City Park in New Orleans on Feb. 23–24.

HEAD COACH JEFF LORIO
"Overall it was a good event for us at Nicholls. We made way too many bogeys in the first round but give the guys credit - they bounced back and played two really solid rounds. It's nice to shoot our lowest single round and tournament score in the last event of the fall. Hopefully it will give us some confidence heading into next semester."
"We learned a lot about ourselves this Fall. Obviously, the good golf we played this semester proves that we can compete when things go well. Throughout the semester we made enough birdies to be successful but as a group we made way too many bogeys. We need to learn how to fight through adversity better if we want to continue to improve and compete for a conference championship."
(on Matthew Lotz and Tom Watson)
"Matt and Tom have been super consistent this year and have established themselves as leaders. When we get the back end of the line playing to their abilities, like today at LaTOUR, we can have a special spring. I know the guys will work hard over the break to get where we want to be come April!"
