NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will play their final fall tournament in Pensacola when they head to West Florida for the Fall Fling on Thursday and Friday.
The men's team had two individual bracket winners at the Big Easy Classic in
Beltran Fernandez and
Jerall Yasin. Also, Yasin and Fernandez made it to the finals in doubles as a tandem at the Big Easy Classic and followed that up with a dominating performance in their doubles match at the Battle Down the Bayou.
As a team, the Privateers have played competition from Nicholls, Southern, Alcorn State and Xavier through their first two fall tournaments.
Jacob Rouleau-Mailly, who is also new to the squad this season, made the finals at the top flight bracket in the Big Easy Classic. Rouleau-Mailly finished last season at Northern Kentucky on a strong note, winning seven of his last 10 singles matches during his first collegiate season.
On the women's side, the group of six all won their doubles matches to set the tone at the Battle Down the Bayou in the last tournament.
Fleur Sprengers and
Danique Vermue won two matches in doubles at Nicholls including the first in a third set tiebreak that finished 18-16.
The duo also won the doubles bracket at the Big Easy Classic with three victories and only three games conceded in their last two matches.
Kateryna Kalistratova had a pair of three-set wins in singles during the Big Easy Classic that opened the fall campaign for the Privateers. Kalistratova also won her lone singles match in Thibodaux during the last tournament. Kalistratova finished last year with a 5-4 mark against Southland opponents while playing through the top three flights.
The doubles teams collectively sported a 4-1 record in Thibodaux. Adding to that were
Ananya Dhankhar and
Naila Krifa who scored a doubles win in their only match at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
