NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers had a solid close to their home weekend as they notched six wins on the second day of their fall invitational hosted at the Privateer Beach Courts.
The day finished strong as
Renata Dykstra and
Molly Perry teamed up for a win over Southeastern newcomers, Izzy Hebert and Lina Ramos. The duo persevered 21-19, 21-16 over Hebert and Ramos who had gone 2-0 on the first day of the tournament.
New Orleans also had a stronghold over Nicholls on the second day of the tournament. It began with
Brooke Dow and
Dayla Ward who got out to a big early lead and held through the first set. After being pushed to a third, the tandem went on a 5-1 run to win the match 21-14, 13-21, 15-11.
Kylie Lyons and
Sadie Elliott had a straight set win over a Colonels pair at 21-12, 21-13. Lucci Alexander and
Ashley Salazar also had a win in straight sets that was sealed by an Alexander block and an ace at 21-14, 21-13. Elliott and
Jordan Madsen dominated their match against Nicholls, winning 21-7, 21-6.
Lindsey Neal and
Mona Salgado also closed their weekend on a high note with a 21-17, 21-12 win.
On the first day, the Privateers were pushing competitors from Southern Miss and Southeastern. The tandem of Dow and Ward provided a win in one of the early sessions when they rallied from a set down to beat a duo from Southern Miss 12-21, 24-22, 15-11.
The rest of the day had thrilling finishes as the Privateers had five matches that went the full three sets against competitors from Southern Miss, Southeastern and ULM.
New Orleans will close out their fall season at Tulane next weekend.
