NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will face their final non-conference test of the season in their third consecutive Sunday game as they face the Tulane Green Wave. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
New Orleans lost 126-62 to #5 LSU last weekend in what was the second largest crowd in women's program history.
Shanihya Brown had 14 points and
Brialle Washington finished with 13 points.
Sephora Kayolo made her return to the court after a long bout with an injury. Kayolo redshirted last year due to injury and played just three games in 2023-24 at Oral Roberts. The redshirt senior had five rebounds in 23 minutes against LSU.
Through seven games,
Shanihya Brown leads the Privateers in points per game at 12.1. Brown had three double-digit scoring efforts last season and already has four this year. She currently ranks 14
th in the Southland in points per game.
Three Privateers have double digits in steals this season. Brown leads the team with 19.
Aaliyah Ellis has 12 and
Jayla Kimbrough has 10. As a team, the Privateers have 9.6 steals per game which ranks fifth in the Southland.
New Orleans leads the all-time series 30-23. The Privateers had a 25-game winning streak from 1981-1993. Tulane has won 15 of 17 meetings since then. The Green Wave won the last meeting 90-63 in December 2023.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Tulane is sitting at a record of 3-5 heading into play. The Green Wave have three players who average double figures led by Kanija Daniel who averages 13.2 points per game. Tulane scores 71.1 points per game while allowing 75.1.
The Green Wave last played on Dec. 4, a 72-66 loss to Missouri State. Tulane carried a two-point lead into the half but had only five free throw attempts in the second half while Missouri State went to the line 18 times.
