Men's Tennis to Face First Road Test at LSU

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will play their first road match of the season when they take on the LSU Tigers on Sunday at the LSU Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start.

Live video can be found here.

New Orleans (1-0) had an impressive opener against Mississippi Gulf Coast as they won 6-1. The Privateers dominated in doubles, only losing four games. Flights three through six all won their matches in straight sets.

Three Privateers made their spring season debuts and all of them went 2-0. True freshmen, Sep de Visser, Julian Franzmann and Jay Temming all won their singles and doubles matches last Wednesday at the Privateer Tennis Center.

Temming only lost one game between his singles and doubles matches. He paired with Joseph Townes for a victory at flight three doubles by a score of 6-0 then won his singles match 6-1, 6-0.

It's the first test against a power four opponent for the Privateers this season and a familiar foe in LSU. Since 2009, the Privateers and Tigers have played in every year except two (2019 and 2021). The last time New Orleans got a point off LSU was in 2005.

LSU (4-2) has already had a busy spring that kicked off with wins over Southern and Louisiana on Jan. 15. The Tigers then went 0-2 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend with losses to #22 North Carolina State and Pepperdine. Most recently, LSU picked up a pair of wins against UAB.

Julien Penzlin is 6-0 in dual matches, having played across four different flights. Alessio Vasquez is 4-0 between flights three and four. Earlier in the day, the Tigers are slated to play Memphis at 12 p.m.
