NEW ORLEANS – After a nearly whole week to prepare, the New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team will take on the Alcorn State Braves on Saturday afternoon at the Privateer Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
New Orleans (3-2) lost to Memphis six days ago by a 4-0 score. The Privateers were in a tough battle against the Tigers who had a rugged schedule to this point of the season.
Marc Mail was ahead in his match when the outcome was decided.
In singles matches this season, the Privateers are 3-1 in tiebreak sets.
Julian Franzmann and
Joseph Townes have each won their only tiebreak while Mail is 1-1 in tiebreak sets heading into the weekend matchup.
Three Privateers co-lead the squad in victories on the still young season. Mail,
Matthew Armbruster and
Sep de Visser each have two wins in singles this season.
New Orleans has dominated the series against the Braves. Dating back to 2009, the Privateers have won 13 straight matches against Alcorn State. The last meeting was in March 2023, a 7-0 win for the Privateers. New Orleans has also engineered three straight sweeps against the Braves heading into Saturday.
It's the start of a busy slate for the Privateers who are scheduled for four matches over the next six days. They will also face West Alabama, Jackson State and North Alabama in that stretch.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The Braves (3-9) have already had a busy schedule with several doubleheaders. They suffered a pair of defeats against Ole Miss last Sunday. Their wins are against junior colleges: Copiah-Lincoln, Southwest Mississippi and Mississippi Gulf Coast.
David Leon is the leading returner on the squad in wins from last season. Leon played across each of the top four flights a year ago.
