Men's and Women's Tennis Have Combined Five Home Matches Starting Monday

NEW ORLEANS – It will be a busy week at the Privateer Tennis Center with five matches on tap. The men's team will play West Alabama (Monday), Jackson State (Wednesday) and North Alabama (Friday). The women also have matches against West Alabama (Monday) and Jackson State (Wednesday).

WOMEN'S PREVIEW
Once the women step onto the court on Monday, it will be the first time playing a competitive match in nine days. Their last match was a 4-0 loss to Troy on Feb. 15.

With conference play around the corner (starting Mar. 1), this week will be the last pair of matches before the women begin their trek against Southland competition.

As a team, the ladies are a combined 10-4 in singles matches this season. Four of the six Privateers have two wins to their name while Iris Danne and Anastassia Kouchnareva have not suffered a loss in singles going into the week.

The women played West Alabama twice since 2012. New Orleans won the first meeting between the two sides but the Tigers scored a 4-3 win in the most recent meeting (2022).

Against Jackson State, the women lost their first match to the Tigers last season 4-2. Before that, the Privateers had a 13-match winning streak against Jackson State.

MEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer men (4-2) are coming off a 6-1 win over Alcorn State on Saturday entering their three-match week on home court.

The men's team has won all four matches at the Privateer Tennis Center, a place they will remain for the next four matches including the start of conference play against Nicholls on Mar. 8.

Sep de Visser and Marc Mail each picked up their third win of the season in singles on Saturday against the Braves. Mail has only lost eight games in four sets over his last two completed matches while playing between flight one and two.

The true freshman, de Visser has two sets this year that he's won without dropping a game. He did it in the first set against Charlie Bardy (Southern Miss) and the first set against Yangho Park (Alcorn State).

The men last played West Alabama in 2022 and won 5-2. Against Jackson State, the men have won 15 straight matches dating back to 2009 and have only lost two or more points three times in that span.

North Alabama will be playing the Privateers for the second time. New Orleans shut out the Lions 7-0 in their first meeting in January 2023.
