NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will play seven combined matches over the next seven days all at the Privateer Tennis Center.
The men will face UTRGV (Mar. 22), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Mar. 24), Nicholls (Mar. 27) and Copiah-Lincoln CC (Mar. 28). The women will take on UTRGV, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Nicholls on the same dates.
MEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer men are coming off their eighth victory of the season as they defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast CC 7-0 on Wednesday. All singles matches were done in straight sets and no player was pushed beyond nine games in any set.
Of the eight wins the Privateers have this season, five occurred while not conceding a point.
The men's team has a collective winning percentage of .722 in singles and .625 in doubles.
Joseph Townes and
Jay Temming are 9-1 in doubles this season. Their next win would make them the 13
th tandem since full records were kept (1997) to achieve 10 wins in a season.
David Tesic is on a five-match winning streak entering play this weekend. Tesic has won both of his three-set matches in that stretch.
Sep de Visser leads the team in singles wins with seven and has won four straight completed matches.
This is the first time the Privateer men will face UTRGV. New Orleans has five straight wins over Nicholls dating back to 2019. Five of the last six matches against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi have been decided by a 4-3 score line.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer women overcame having to play with just five available student-athletes as they defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast 6-1 in their most recent match.
Freshman,
Fleur Sprengers has a 6-3 mark on the season. She has only lost eight games in her last four sets against Jiayun Zhu (Tulane) and Valleria Callejo (Mississippi Gulf Coast). Sprengers and
Nouray Khaled paired together for the first time this season for a flight one doubles win on Wednesday.
Khaled, in her first year on the Lakefront, has five wins on the spring season. Four of those victories have come in three sets.
The women's team is 0-2 in conference play after losses to Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin in early March. After this stretch of matches, the women's team will be on the road for the remainder of their conference slate which encompasses four matches.
The Privateers are searching for their first win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi since 2021. New Orleans has won seven of the last eight meetings against Nicholls.
