Tennis Teams to Square Off Against St. Mary's

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will step out of conference for a Friday morning match against St. Mary's (Texas). Both matches are slated to begin at 9 a.m. at the Privateer Tennis Center.

SCHEDULING NOTE
The matches against Nicholls scheduled for Saturday have been moved to Mar. 27. The women's match will begin at 11 a.m. with the men's match to follow.

WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer women are looking to bounce back after back-to-back losses to begin Southland play against Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin. The Privateers are 3-3 this season and have played all six matches at home to this point.

Fleur Sprengers has led the way in singles for the Privateers with four victories while playing between flight two and three. In doubles, Sprengers and Kateryna Kalistratova currently hold a 3-1 record.

Iris Danne, Nouray Khaled and Anastassia Kouchnareva are all sitting on three singles wins thus far in the spring. As a team, the Privateers are 16-16 in singles matches this season.

This will be the first ever meeting against St. Mary's for the women's team who currently holds a 3-0 record. The Rattlers have also beaten UTRGV 4-3 this season.

MEN'S PREVIEW
The men are coming off their first home loss against North Alabama, which happened on Feb. 28. The Privateers (5-3) are playing their seventh home match of the season.

Jay Temming and Joseph Townes have five wins in six matches as a tandem this season. They've played across flight two and three in doubles. David Tesic and Julian Franzmann have linked up as of the Jackson State match on Feb. 26 and have won their first two doubles matches together against the Tigers and North Alabama.

As a team, the men are 20-10 in singles matches this season. Five Privateers are at three victories in 2025: Marc Mail, Joseph Townes, Julian Franzmann, Sep de Visser and Jay Temming.

The men played St. Mary's back in 2021 and won 6-1 in San Antonio in their only ever meeting against the Rattlers. St. Mary's picked up two points against a Southland foe when they lost 5-2 to Lamar on Wednesday.
