NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will close out conference play on Saturday and Monday when they visit Lamar and UIW. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
MEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer men (10-6, 1-2) will close out their conference slate after a long gap between matches. Their most recent time on the court was a 6-1 win on Mar. 28 against Copiah-Lincoln at the Privateer Tennis Center.
Julian Franzmann enters as one of two Privateers with 10 wins in singles play on the season. The true freshman has won five consecutive matches dating back to Mar. 19. He's won both conference matches in that span against UTRGV and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Jay Temming and
Joseph Townes sit at 11-3 in doubles this season. They have won six of the last eight matches and four of those victories have come while conceding three or fewer games.
As a team, the Privateers have won nearly 62 percent of their singles and doubles matches on the season.
Lamar won the last meeting between the two sides in 2024. The last 10 matches against UIW have been hotly contested with the Privateers winning six of those meetings.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Privateer women (5-10, 1-6) are coming off back-to-back losses against Southeastern and McNeese. They will also be wrapping up their conference slate ahead of a home match against West Florida and the following conference tournament.
Fleur Sprengers has won three straight matches to move her record to 10-4 on the season. The true freshman won both of her matches in three sets last week against Southeastern and McNeese.
Three Privateers have won six matches in singles on the season:
Iris Danne,
Kateryna Kalistratova, and
Nouray Khaled are all sitting at the same total heading into the weekend.
New Orleans has won four of the last six matches against Lamar heading into Saturday. They won the last meeting on Mar. 6, 2024 by a score of 4-3. New Orleans had an 11-match winning streak against UIW recently snapped in the last meeting in 2024.
