Box Score 2 SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team clinched matters early as they took the first four points in a 4-3 win over the UIW Cardinals. The Privateer women snagged the doubles point, but UIW's women came back to defeat New Orleans 5-2.
MEN'S RECAP
The men constructed a solid doubles point, started by
Joseph Townes and
Jay Temming who have been phenomenal this season. The pair won 6-2 at flight two as they put the first doubles match on the board for New Orleans.
Sep de Visser and
Matthew Armbruster then finished matters for the opening point of the day as they won 6-3. Armbruster and de Visser are now 8-3 overall while Townes and Temming moved to 12-3 on the season.
In singles, the Privateers got victories from de Visser, Temming and
Marc Mail to secure the victory.
Temming was efficient as he put away Alexandre Chauvel 6-1, 6-1 in a flight six victory. Mail followed by securing double breaks in each set of a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Emilio Vila. At flight five, de Visser broke through a long first set on his way to a 7-5, 6-2 decision.
Alejandro Hernandez won at flight two for UIW with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Marcel Miralles won a tiebreak in the first set during his 7-6, 7-5 decision. Rafael Candelas took a 10-point tiebreaker narrowly at 10-8.
WOMEN'S RECAP
The ladies won the doubles point but were defeated in singles on five of the six courts in a 5-2 loss to UIW to close out the day.
Anastassia Kouchnareva and
Kateryna Kalistratova linked up for a huge tiebreak win that helped seal the doubles point.
Fleur Sprengers and
Nouray Khaled also secured a victory by a single service break as they won 6-4.
The Cardinals won 6-2 at flight three in doubles.
In singles, Khaled provided a victory for the Privateers as she had a service break on Smilia Matovic in each set during a 6-4, 6-4 win.
UIW took the remainder of the matches including a win by opponent retirement at flight six. Estefania Gonzalez took a first set tiebreak on her way to a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win. Amelie Montalvo won in three sets at flight three. Luciana Paez Hernandez won 6-2, 6-2 at flight five and Lyric Bonilla notched a 6-4, 6-2 win at flight two.
NEXT UP
Both teams will be at home on Apr. 18 for Senior Day against West Florida. Proceedings start at 10 a.m.
