Armbruster Wins Southland Student-Athlete of the Year, Five Privateers Make All-Academic Team

FRISCO, TexasMatthew Armbruster earned Student-Athlete of the Year honors and five New Orleans Privateers made the Southland All-Academic Teams for the 2025 spring season.
 
Joining Armbruster on the men's side were David Tesic, Julian Franzmann and Sep de Visser. On the women's side, Fleur Sprengers earned a spot on the Second Team.
 
Armbruster, who helped lead the Privateers to the NCAA Tournament, was Southland Tournament MVP for the season. The senior has a 4.0 GPA as a Biological Sciences major and received his degree in May. Armbruster also had a 9-7 doubles record overall and a 3-0 mark in conference.
 
He was named All-Southland in doubles along with teammate and fellow All-Academic selection, de Visser. It was the third consecutive year Armbruster earned All-Southland doubles honors.
 
As was Armbruster, Tesic has been a part of two postseason championship teams in his time on the Lakefront.
 
The senior is in a Master's program for Business Administration and carried a 3.66 GPA. On the court, Tesic had a combined record between singles and doubles of 16-5 and was a First Team All-Southland selection.
 
Two freshmen also made the team in Franzmann and de Visser. Franzmann holds a 3.71 GPA as a Business Administration major and he earned the clinching point in the Southland championship match. Franzmann went 14-5 in singles this year.
 
As a Chemistry major, de Visser holds a 3.51 GPA. He finished the year with 21 combined wins and was one of two Privateers to have double-digit victories in singles and doubles during the season.
 
Sprengers had an impressive first season on the Lakefront for the women's team. She finished the year 11-6 overall and 6-3 against Southland competition. Sprengers also had eight doubles victories on the year. She currently holds a 3.89 GPA as a Chemistry major.
 
Since 2020, the Privateers have had five Student-Athletes of the Year in the Southland. Armbruster joins Johannes Klein, Marcel Volz, Ank Vullings and Laurie Barendse who also earned those honors within the last five years.
