Cross Country Opens the Season with the Battle for New Orleans on Friday Evening

NEW ORLEANS – The University of New Orleans cross country teams will kick off the 2025 season across the street from the University Center when they co-host the second annual "Battle for New Orleans" with Tulane on Friday evening at Lake Oaks Park.

Last season at the Battle for New Orleans, the UNO women finished second with a point total of 44 points -eight points behind Lamar. Returning junior Emma Bourg led the way for the Privateer women with a seventh-place finish in 14:48.67. In their collegiate debuts, Petra Imre finished 11th with a mark of 15:03.47 and Michela Papalia finished 27th in 15:51.02.

Freshmen Alexa Daverio (Sarasota, Fla), London Parker (New Orleans, John Curtis HS), and Candilynn Vega (Walker, Walker HS), are set to make their collegiate debuts for the UNO women at this year's Battle for New Orleans. UTRGV transfer sophomore Daria Rojas Vasquez and graduate transfer Anais Sulpice are also scheduled to make their Privateer debuts tomorrow evening.

The Privateer men finished third with a total of 110 points at last season's meet, behind Lamar (50 points) and Tulane (15 points). Of returning Privateers, senior Antonio Delgado set a new personal best at 5,000 meters with a 23rd-place finish in 15:54.79, while Mason Appleton did not finish and Alex Williams missed the race due to injury.

Freshmen Brandt Blanchard (New Orleans, Jesuit HS), Chey Bridges (Monroe, Sterlington HS), Landen Juneau (Geismar, Dutchtown HS), Noah Lange (Morgan City, Morgan City HS), Henry Livingston (Northside, Ala.), Ben Stumm (Saarbrücken, Germany), and Grant Young (Dallas, Texas) are all scheduled to make their Privateer debuts tomorrow night.

The women's 4K is set for 5:15 p.m., with the men's 5K to follow at 5:45 p.m.
