NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's and women's tennis teams will be heading to Thibodaux to participate in the Battle Down the Bayou hosted by Nicholls. Both teams will play doubles and singles matches on Friday starting at 9 a.m.
The men's and women's teams will play two doubles matches during the morning session and one singles match in the afternoon. The Privateers will be competing against opponents from Nicholls and Southern.
Last week in the Big Easy Classic was the debut for a host of Privateers on both teams. The men's team has seven new players, all of whom made their debut in a Privateer uniform last week at home. The women's team has two new players who also debuted in the Big Easy Classic.
The women's team went 3-2 collectively against opponents from Nicholls in singles last week. That included victories from
Kateryna Kalistratova who won the flight two bracket.
Naila Krifa and
Nouray Khaled also won matches against Colonels opponents during singles competition.
The tandem of
Danique Vermue and Fleur Spregners on the women's side also started on a high note as they went through the women's bracket with three victories over the first weekend of fall play.
On the men's side, three singles matches occurred in the main draw between New Orleans and Nicholls. The Privateers came out on top of two of those matches:
Jacob Rouleau-Mailly at flight one and Carlos Melgosa at flight four.
The new look men's team that features four freshmen and three transfers along with lone returner,
Marius Gyllerup took two flights of singles:
Beltran Fernandez (flight two) and
Jerall Yasin (flight three).
