BATON ROUGE, La. –
Jose Rodriguez made his debut by breaking a school record that lasted 21 years and
Petra Imre broke an 11-year old mark as the New Orleans Privateers finished their first meet of the indoor season at the LSU Purple Tiger.
Rodriguez, who transferred to the Privateers from Arizona, ran a time of 1:22.08 as he finished fifth in the men's 600-meter. That time topped Kwesi Cudjoe-Chow by .29 seconds to immediately enter Rodriguez into the Privateer record books.
There were two personal bests set on the day.
Kenneth Cerrato set a new fastest time in the men's 600. The senior crossed the line in a time of 1:29.20. Also,
Christina Davis beat her previous personal best in the weight throw by nearly a full meter. Davis' throw of 15.03 meters netted her a sixth place finish and beat her previous mark of 14.04 meters.
Brandt Blanchard set the third fastest time in program history in the men's 600. He finished two spots behind Rodriguez and clocked a 1:22.43.
Imre and
Michela Papalia finished fourth and fifth respectively in the women's 1000-meter and both women broke the previous school record in that event set by Emily Martinez in 2015. Imre ran a time of 3:06.65 and Papalia finished a shade behind at 3:06.76. The old school record was 3:40.58.
The Privateers head to the track next on Feb. 1 when they participate in the USA Jaguar Invitational hosted at the Birmingham CrossPlex, which will also be the site of the Southland Championships.
