NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's basketball team will finish off a three-game road swing at Northwestern State on Saturday before returning home to play East Texas A&M on Monday at 7 p.m.
The New Orleans Privateers (4-9, 2-2) were in a battle early but could not recover from an early second half run in an 83-69 loss to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Wednesday at the Hilliard Center.
Jakevion Buckley and
Coleton Benson co-led the team with 15 points each. Buckley added five rebounds and four assists.
Enzo Boudouma finished with 10 points.
Churchill Abass added three more blocks to his season total against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Abass has 20 blocked shots which stands third in the league only behind Jerald Colonel (43) of Nicholls and Andrew Holifield (22) of Lamar.
As a team, the Privateers are fourth in the Southland averaging just over 4.0 blocks per game. Lamar leads the conference in blocked shots per game at 5.3.
Jakevion Buckley and
Coleton Benson are the Privateers' two leading scorers and they both have had 30-point games. Buckley scored 32 points at UTRGV while Benson scored 33 points at Tulane.
The Privateers are one of two teams to have two different 30-point scorers this season, joining UIW (Harrison Reede and Davion Bailey).
New Orleans is 13-16 all-time against Northwestern State. The Demons have won five straight since the Privateers' last victory in February 2023. The Privateers and East Texas A&M have split six career meetings.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Northwestern State (3-10, 1-3) lost 74-64 on Wednesday against Stephen F. Austin. Their lone conference win as a 76-68 victory against Southeastern. Micah Thomas is fifth in the Southland in scoring at 16.1 points per game. The Demons also have the most free throw attempts of any team in the league (306).
East Texas A&M (6-8, 1-3) has lost three straight entering the weekend with their most recent game, a 69-62 defeat at the hands of Lamar. Ronnie Harrison is fourth in the conference in field goal percentage (.503) and ninth in points (14.5 per game).
