NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team returns to the Lakefront Arena on Saturday when they face the East Texas A&M Lions. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Privateers (0-12, 0-4) could not overcome a hot start by the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in an 85-54 loss on Wednesday. The Islanders made 12 threes, 10 of which came in the first half.
Jayla Kimbrough led the Privateers with 15 points.
Hailee Brennen notched a season-high 12 points on Wednesday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. It was her first double-digit scoring effort since Nov. 9, 2023 when she scored 15 points against Middle Tennessee while at Florida A&M. Brennen became the ninth Privateer this season to score in double figures in a game.
Brialle Washington played all 45 minutes of the Privateers' overtime loss at UTRGV tying her for the fifth most minutes played in a game in program history.
Lauren Banks played 44 minutes of Monday's game. The last time two Privateers played in over 40 minutes in the same game was Feb. 24, 2024 at Southeastern (Zoe Cooper and DeArica Pryor).
Kimbrough recorded her fifth double-double in a Privateer uniform (all of them points-rebounds). Kimbrough had 13 points and 11 boards in 24 minutes at UTRGV. Four of those games have come against Southland opponents.
New Orleans is 3-3 all-time in six meetings against East Texas A&M. The Privateers swept the season series last year with an overtime win in Commerce (66-62) and a 78-52 victory at Lakefront Arena.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The Lions (5-6, 1-3) are fourth in the Southland in scoring offense heading into the weekend at 66.9 points. In their most recent outing, East Texas A&M lost 64-48 to Lamar on Wednesday.
Reza Po is the conference leader in field goal percentage (54.5) and the team leader in scoring at 13.5 points per game. Po, Tiani Ellison, Cora Horvath and Ahmya Boyce have all started every game for the Lions this season.
