NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will have a road-home split this week. A trip to East Texas A&M on Thursday starts the week before the Privateers return home to face Northwestern State on Saturday.
The Privateers lost 77-41 against McNeese. New Orleans held the Cowgirls to 37.5 percent from the field, their third lowest total in a Southland game.
Brialle Washington scored in double figures for the fifth time in her last seven games with 10 points.
Jayla Kimbrough is sixth in the league in rebounding and free throw percentage since Southland play began. Kimbrough has 6.7 rebounds per game against Southland opponents. She's coupled that with a free throw percentage of 82.4 in that same stretch.
The Privateers have held opponents collectively to a field goal percentage of 38.5 over the last nine games. They held UTRGV to a 30.3 percent clip in their meeting in late December. The Privateers did not hold any of their first 10 opponents to under 40 percent from the field and seven of those opponents shot over 50 percent.
Shanihya Brown continues to rank in the top five in both assists and steals on the season among Southland players. Brown is third in the league in assists, averaging 3.9 per game and leads the Southland in steals per game as she's done for most of the season with 2.7.
The Privateers lost 72-63 to East Texas A&M on Jan. 3 at Lakefront Arena. Thursday's game is critical for the Privateers to try to climb up the standings as the Lions hold the eighth spot and a two-game advantage on the Privateers with 11 games left.
