Women's Basketball Travels to UIW, HCU

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will hit the road this week for a pair of games in Texas when they take on UIW (Thursday) and HCU (Saturday).
 
The Privateers lost their last contest at home on UTRGV by a 71-53 score this past Saturday. Shanihya Brown scored 18 points to lead the scoring for the Privateers while Sharon Smith had 10 points.
 
The Privateers continue to be among the best rebounding teams in the Southland in conference only games. New Orleans leads the league in offensive rebounds per game with 13.5 and is fourth in total rebounding at 38.5 rebounds per game. Jayla Kimbrough is averaging 6.0 rebounds per game in conference play while Lauren Banks has 5.5 rebounds per game.
 
Brown is the only player who ranks inside the top five in the Southland in both assists and steals. Brown is third in both of those categories entering the week and is the team's leading scorer at 11.2 points per game.
 
New Orleans also forces the fourth most turnovers per game of any team in the conference. Their 17.8 turnovers per game rank only behind McNeese, Nicholls and Lamar. The Privateers are also fourth in the league in blocked shots since conference play started.
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
UIW is currently sixth in the conference standings with a record of 8-7. The Cardinals have lost four straight since their last win on Jan. 24 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Brynn Lusby is one of three qualified players in the Southland who is shooting over 50 percent from the field this season.
 
HCU is the first team out of the Southland Tournament picture at 4-11. The Huskies are three games behind eighth place Nicholls heading into Thursday. The Huskies have the sixth most steals in the conference at 196. Grace Booth is tied for fith in the league in rebounding at 6.6 boards per game.
