Privateers Continue to Show Improvement at Music City Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 400-meter group put up a strong performance and had several times rank highly in program history as part of the New Orleans Privateers' performance at the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt.

Martin Liaud ran a 48.85 in the men's 400-meter final, which ranked as the ninth fastest recorded indoor time in program history. In the unseeded final, Keldrick Turner finished fifth and turned in a time of 48.55, ranking him seventh best in program history.

Ashley Robinson ran a 57.98 in the women's unseeded 400-meter. Robinson now ranks eighth on the all-time performance list in program history.

Antonio Creger posted a new best throw in the shot put as his final attempt went 14.20 meters. The true freshman has progressed from a 12.83 at the LSU Purple Tiger to a 13.73 at the Jaguar Invitational before breaking his personal best again at Vanderbilt.

Yoran Kabala-Kabengle made it to the semifinals of the men's 60-meter. He finished second in his heat with a time of 6.89 at the preliminaries which automatically qualified him for Saturday's semifinal where he posted a time of 6.90.

The Privateers also had several distance personal bests including Erin Grime, Anais Sulpice and Michela Paplia in the mile. Jose Rodriguez also achieved a personal best in the mile on the men's side.

"I felt like the men's and women's 400 group were the performers of the meet," said Head Coach Clayton O'Callaghan. "We had four marks in the top ten in program history so that was really good to see. Keldrick and Martin had great performances in their debut.

"I've seen nice improvements from the throwers on the men's side. I felt Friday wasn't our best performance in distance events, but we were able to bounce back on Saturday. The focus now is getting our athletes in the best position to perform at the Southland Indoor Championships."

The Privateers will head back to the Birmingham CrossPlex for the Southland Indoor Championships which take place from Feb. 25-26.
