NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team continues their road swing this week with a pair of games at Stephen F. Austin (Thursday) and at Lamar (Saturday).
The Privateers lost their last outing on Saturday when they fell 68-57 to HCU.
Brialle Washington led the Privateers with 14 points while
Jayla Kimbrough and
Lauren Banks finished with 10 points each.
New Orleans continues to do well in blocking opponents' shots. They rank in the top five in the Southland in league only games and have rejected 53 total shots (3.1 per game) since Southland play started.
Kimbrough has led the way in rebounding since conference play started. The senior is averaging just shy of six rebounds per game (5.9) and led the team in rebounds against HCU with eight. Kimbrough and Banks both have over two offensive rebounds per game in conference.
Washington has been the leading scorer for the Privateers since conference play started. The senior guard has posted 11.7 points per game and ranks 12
th in the league in field goals made in that span with 74.
The Privateers have also forced turnovers at a higher rate than most in league play. They rank fourth in the Southland in both steals (8.7 per game) and turnovers forced (18.0 per game).
New Orleans lost to both opponents in their previous meeting at the Lakefront Arena in mid-January.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Both teams the Privateers will play this week are in the top four in the conference standings. Stephen F. Austin is in a tie with Lamar for the third spot with both teams at 12-4. The Lady Jacks have the highest scoring offense in the league at 75.4 points per game and Kaylinn Kemp leads the league in assists at 5.5 per game.
Lamar is second in the league in turnovers forced and third among all Southland teams in turnover margin. They also have the second best scoring defense in the league, allowing just 58.6 points per game. Jacei Denley is fourth in the conference in three-point percentage at 39.6.
