NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will celebrate Senior Day and close their home slate. There will be a Senior Day ceremony preceding their game against Southeastern on Thursday. The Privateers will then play league leading McNeese on Saturday.
The seniors who will be honored on Thursday are
Jayla Owen,
Chenai Mushore,
Sephora Kayolo,
Aaliyah Ellis,
Brialle Washington,
Shanihya Brown and
Jayla Kimbrough.
Shanihya Brown has 99 assists on the season and is on the brink of notching a 100-assist season by a Privateer for a second consecutive season.
Alexis Calderon had 111 assists last year. Prior to that, the Privateers did not have a player achieve 100 assists since Brittany Helm in 2007-08.
Jayla Owen became the 11th different player on the roster to notch a double-digit scoring output when she put in 10 points against Lamar on 2/21. It was her third game in double-digits at the D-I level. Owen had two such games at North Dakota in 2024-25.
The Privateers are fifth in Southland only games in blocked shots with 58 entering the week, averaging 3.1 per game. New Orleans had 14 total blocks in eight non-conference games this year.
Hailee Brennen leads the way individually in that category since Southland play began with 18 total blocks.
Hailee Brennen recorded five blocks last Saturday against Lamar marking the most by a Privateer this season and tying the most by any Southland player. Brennen becomes the sixth Southland player with a five-block game this year. It was the first time any New Orleans player had five blocks in a game since 2019 (Whitley Larry at Arkansas).
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Southeastern has not won a road game this year (0-13) heading into the week. The Lady Lions have lost four straight games since their back-to-back victories against UIW and HCU in early February.
McNeese has already clinched the regular season title and the 1-seed in the Southland Tournament with an 18-1 conference mark heading into the week. The Cowgirls have allowed opponents to score just 51.2 points per game this season.
