NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women's basketball team will host a pair of games this week as they take on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Thursday (6:30 p.m.) and the UTRGV Vaqueros on Saturday (1 p.m.).
The Privateers fell behind early and lost a 78-61 decision against Northwestern State last Saturday.
Shanihya Brown scored 16 points and added six assists and three steals.
Mariah Hart had 10 points, her first collegiate double-digit scoring effort.
Hart became the tenth player on the roster to record a game of at least 10 points this season. That ties for the most players on a roster with 10 points in a game in the Southland with UIW, Lamar and UTRGV.
Against Northwestern State, the Privateers had 14 steals tying the most in a single game this season. They also accomplished that mark against Loyola.
Aaliyah Ellis set a new career mark for steals in a game with five. This season, the Privateers have had 10 or more steals in a game eight times.
Brown had six assists and three steals against Northwestern State on 1/31. This season, Brown has six games with at least five assists and three steals. The senior guard is tied for first in the league in steals per game at 2.7 and ranks third in the league in assists per game at 3.8.
The Privateers were defeated by both teams on the road in the last week of December. New Orleans took UTRGV to overtime before falling 87-81 in what was the team's highest point total this season.
