NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers men's basketball team will look to keep their recent momentum going as they host a pair of opponents. The Privateers will host UTRGV on Saturday at 5 p.m. and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday at 7 p.m.
The Privateers have won three straight after putting up their season high in points in a victory against East Texas A&M on Monday. New Orleans won 94-85 against the Lions to complete the season sweep.
Coleton Benson scored a career-high 34 points and made seven three-pointers.
The Privateers are leading the league in points per game since Southland play started. They are averaging 78.6 points per game against conference foes entering the week.
Their 94 points on Monday was the highest in a game this season. New Orleans has scored 80 or more points seven times this season and they are undefeated in those games.
Stacy Hollowell earned his 100th conference victory of his coaching career on Monday night against East Texas A&M. Hollowell has posted a winning record in seven of his nine seasons heading into this year. The last time the Privateers had double-digit conference wins in a season was in 2021-22. Their most conference wins in a season in program history was 18 (1992-93).
Enzo Boudouma has been a strong part of the Privateers' three-game winning streak. He is playing an average of 29.6 minutes per game and is averaging 7.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Boudouma also notched a new career-high in points on Monday with 15 against East Texas A&M.
The Privateers enter this week in a three-way tie for fourth place, which would be a single by in the conference tournament and they play the two teams they are tied with this week. New Orleans split the two games on the road, losing at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and winning at UTRGV.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
UTRGV is second in the Southland in field goal percentage this season at 46.8. The Vaqueros enter Saturday on a six-game winning streak after beating HCU by 17 points on Monday. Jaylen Washington has the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the Southland with 86 assists to just 26 turnovers.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi lost a two-point decision against UIW at home on Monday. The Islanders are second in the Southland in scoring defense and fourth in opponent field goal percentage. The Islanders also have 521 free throw attempts, third most in the conference. Sheldon Williams is seventh in the conference in rebounding at 6.9 per game.
