NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers beach volleyball team finished their regular season with a 3-2 win over ULM at the NOLA Classic hosted by Tulane at White Sands.
The Privateers got wins from flights two, four and five.
Brooke Dow and
Ashley Salazar won by forfeit after one of the players from ULM was unable to continue in the match due to illness.
New Orleans also got a win from
Kylie Lyons and
Mona Salgado. The pair at flight four was in control of the opening set as they scored a 21-14, 21-16 win. Also,
Sadie Elliott and
Shaylee Swartzendruber won at flight five. After coming through a close first set, the duo won their match 21-19, 21-16.
It was the end of a tough weekend for the Privateers who had lost the first four matches. Two of those defeats came at the hands of #20 Arizona on Saturday and Tulane who was receiving votes in the latest poll on Friday.
Dow and Salazar won the opening set of their match against Southern Miss but Abby Lewis and Zuzanna Michalska rallied back to win 19-21, 21-15, 15-10.
The Sieling sisters had their 11-match winning streak broken in the first match of the weekend. The pair took Tulane's top pair of Skylar Ensign and Molly Todd to extra rallies in a third set during an 18-21, 21-12, 16-14 decision that went to the Green Wave.
Against FIU, the flight six pair of Elliott and Swartzendruber won their match 21-15, 21-17 against Annelise Alvarez and Marta Vildere.
NEXT UP
The Privateers will head to the Southland Tournament in Corpus Christi where they will face HCU in the first round on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
