NEW ORLEANS — University of New Orleans golfer
Tom Watson picked up his fifth top-20 finish of the season after shooting a 216 at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge this week.
Watson had the only individual round under par for New Orleans - a 4-under-par 68 during the second round on Tuesday. The Liverpudlian's back nine consisted of five birdies, three pars and a bogey. Tom sank five birdie putts in his last seven holes during Tuesday's second round.
At one point between rounds two and three Watson went 17 straight holes at par or better. He also had the Privateers' lone eagle of the tournament on hole 12 making it back-to-back tournaments for the senior with an eagle.
Maximilian Feistmantl was the only other Privateer in the top 50 after he finished tied for 44
th with a score of 222. His best stretch of golf also came in the second round with birdies on three of his final six holes.
As a team the Privateers finished in 14
th - ahead of Ohio and West Georgia after shooting an 892. UNO had rounds of 301, 289 and 302. Their second round score of 289 was the best round New Orleans has shot on the at True Blue Golf Club since shooting a 282 in the third round of the 2023 Golfweek Fall Challenge.
UConn shot a 6-under-par on Wednesday to move up two spots and beat UAB to the team championship by a single stroke with a score of 850. UAB's Alejandro Fierro beat Kai Jun Huang of UConn to the individual championship by one stroke - 207 to 208.
New Orleans wraps up the 2025-2026 regular season on April 13-14 at the ASU Spring Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. Live scoring will be available on Clippd Scoreboard with updates also available on @PrivateersGolf on X.
