NEW ORLEANS - The University of New Orleans track and field teams wrap up the 2026 season with a trip to Nacogdoches, Texas for the Southland Outdoor Championships on May 14-16.

Privateers currently with a top-10 mark in the Southland this season include Kabengele-Kabala (No. 2 - 100M, No. 7 - 200M), Blanchard (No. 10 - 800M), Ladipo (No. 6 - 100M, No. 5 - 200M), L. Williams (No. 4 - 100M), Turner (No. 3 - 400M, No. 6 - 200M), Sulpice (No. 7 - 800M), and Rodriguez (No. 5 - 800M).
The men's 4x100 team (Kabengele-Kabala, Ladipo, Turner and Bachmann) ranks No. 3 in the Southland, while the men's 4x400 team (Ladipo, Netshiombo, Rodriguez and Turner) ranks No. 6. The women's 4x100 team (L. Williams, Davis, Burnett and Harrison) ranks No. 6.
Kabengele-Kabala's 100M time of 10.20 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays ranks No. 28 in the East, while Turner's time of 46.12 at LSU's Alumni Gold ranks No. 40 - both are on track to qualify for the NCAA East Regional in Lexington, Ky. The New Orleans 4x100 meter relay time currently ranks No. 25 in qualifying (38.80), with the top 24 qualifying, and they would need to pass Charlotte's time of 38.71 to move on.
Last season, the New Orleans men finished 11th with 19 points, led by
Christopher Murphy, who finished with 12 points. The New Orleans women finished 11th as well with 23 points, with
Helen Baumgarten and
Annika Metzger both finishing with 8 points each. The Privateer men's best performance at a Southland Outdoor Championship came in 2022 when they finished fifth with 104 points, while the women finished third with 98 points for their best performance in 2023.
Stephen F. Austin has hosted the Southland Outdoor Championships three times before - in 1991, 2007, and 2009 - finishing fourth once and fifth twice. The SFA men are the reigning Southland Outdoor Champions, while the Northwestern State women have won back-to-back Southland Outdoor Championships. Thursday will be the first trip to Nacogdoches and Homer Bryce Stadium for UNO.
