Melissa Caravella recorded her tenth double-double as the University of New Orleans swept South Alabama, 3-0, at the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Alabama on Wednesday, November 7th, 2001. New Orleans (8-17 overall) recorded its first Sun Belt west division road win, improves to 4-10 in the Sun Belt Conference and clinches the fifth seed in next week's Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Denver, Colorado.
The victory was the Privateers first sweep since defeating Louisiana-Lafayette October 5th at Lakefront Arena. The Privateers have won three of the last four matches including wins over Denver and Southern Miss.
Caravella tied for the Privateers lead in kills with 12, led the team in attempts, 27, digs, 10, and had three blocks.
Junior Alison Howard continues to climb in the UNO recordbooks with 41 assists and increased her career total to 3,926. Her average puts her on pace to reach 4,000 career kills in the first match of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Mary Wanko added 12 kills and two blocks for the Privateers.
The Privateers finish the regular season and honor its seniors Friday, November 9th at 6:00p.m. in the Lakefront Arena Auxiliary Gym.
