GULF SHORES, Ala. (Oct. 27, 2003) – Kevin Maxwell recorded rounds of 69 and 68 to battle into a five-way tie for second place after 36 holes of the Fall Beach Classic, being played here at the Gulf Shores Golf Club and hosted by the University of South Alabama.
The Privateers find themselves tied for 12th place in the 15-team field with host South Alabama as the Privateers completed rounds of 286 and 295 on the day for a 581 stroke total.
Maxwell, a senior from Cumberland, B.C., is tied with Matt Mincer of Charlotte, Ryan Shears and Oscar Fraustro of South Florida, and Justin Elliott of Southern Miss with his 137 total. The five players follow leader Barry Roof of UCF by four strokes as he compiled scores of 69 and 64 for a 133.
Junior Aaron Moreno (Mesa, Ariz.) was the next highest finisher for the Privateers on the day as he posted rounds of 69 and 76 for a 145 and a 39th place tie. Freshman Anthony Klingensmith ranks third among the UNO finishers after the first two rounds with a 150 (76-74) which was good for a 66th place tie, while both Brandon Suzuki (77-76) and Justin Lotz (73-80) each are tied in 75th with total scores of 153.
The tournament completes play Tuesday with 18 holes.
