UNO Holds Ninth-Place after Opening Round at Buffalo Rock Southern Showdown

McCALLA, Ala. (Sept. 22, 2003) -­ University of New Orleans men's golfer Aaron Moreno finds himself in a fifth place tie after shooting a one-under par 71 and sparking the Privateers to a ninth-place standing following the opening round of the Buffalo Rock/Southern Showdown here Monday in the 15-team event.

The Privateers compiled a team score of 297 and are just five strokes behind seventh-place squads Belmont and Mercer. Troy State leads the event after the first day  with a team total of 286.

Kevin Maxwell followed Moreno as UNO's top finisher by shooting an even-par 72 to hold a 13th place tie, while Gregory Catlett tallied a one-over 73 and a 24th place standing. James Fuselier ended the day tied in 80th with an opening-round of 81.

The tournament, which is being hosted by Birmingham Southern College and played at Bent Brook Golf Club, concludes Tuesday with 18 holes.
