Men's Golf First After Opening Day of ULM/Fred Marx Invitational

MONROE, La. (Oct. 3, 2005) – University of New Orleans men's golfer Adam Collins fired a two-under 142 over the first two rounds of the Louisiana-Monroe/Fred Marx Invitational to hold on to a three-way, first-place tie while the Privateers shot a one-over as a team to lead the event after the first day of the 54-hole tournament being held at Bayou Desiard Country Club here Monday.

Collins shot rounds of 70 and 72 and is tied with ULM's Daniel Keeton and Nicholls State's Donny Schmitt for the individual lead.

The Privateers' Anthony Cantu fired a 74 to go along with a 69 for a one-under 143 to hold fourth place, while Jason Kuperman is tied for 11th with a 146 (73-73). Adam Cornelson is the next Privateer finisher in a 25th place tie with a 149 (76-73).

UNO's Matthew Shoemaker holds down a 30th place tie after collecting a 150 (77-73) and Mitch Ellis rounds out the Privateer finishers with a 151 (73-78) for a 38th place tie.

The Privateers tallied team scores of 290 and 287 to post a one-over 577, besting host ULM by three strokes at 580. Following the Indians in the team standings after the first day were Nicholls State (582), Samford (584), Troy (588), Stephen F. Austin (294), Texas State (592), McNeese State (592), Louisiana Tech (598), Missouri State (603) and Jackson State (605).

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
