Men's Golf Seventh After First Round of Sam Hall Intercollegiate

JACKSON, Miss. (Oct. 31, 2005) – The University of New Orleans men's golf team shot a two-under 286 and is in seventh place following the first round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate Monday held at the par 72, 6,900 yard Patrick Farms Golf Club.

The Privateers find themselves 10 strokes behind South Florida who leads after the first day of competition with a 12-under 276. Host Southern Mississippi is tied for second with Jacksonville State after both schools hit a 279. Mercer (280), Nebraska (283) and Louisiana-Monroe (284) are the only other schools ahead of UNO in the 16-team field.

UNO's Adam Collins fired a three-under 69 for the first round and is tied for ninth place. Matthew Shoemaker shot a one-under 71 to tie for 25th, while Anthony Cantu sits in a 35th place tie after having an even-par 72. Kenji Murayama and Santiago Escobar are tied for 48th after each shot a two-over 74.

Mercer's Andrew An leads the individual competition after shooting a nine-under 63.

The second round of the tournament was suspended today because of darkness and will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. The teams will follow up that segment with the third and final round.
