UNO Volleyball Looks to Extend Winning Streak in Tuesday Season Finale

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. - University of New Orleans volleyball head coach Kim Young will seek to become the fourth head coach in school history to start their Privateer tenure with a winning season as the squad hits the road to compete in the Rust College Tri-Match on Tuesday.

UNO (8-9) will face NCAA Division III foe Rust for the second time in less than two weeks at 3 p.m. before taking the court again at 5 p.m. for a match against Division II Stillman College.

Wins in both matches would allow the team to finish 10-9 on the year and put Young in exclusive company with Kellie Trowbridge (1983), Jim Bertoli (1991) and Dana Launey (2006) as Privateer coaches to finish above .500 in their initial season on the Lakefront.

UNO enters Tuesday on a season-best three-match winning streak and carries a 7-1 record against non-NCAA Division I competition. The team's current streak began with a 3-0 sweep of Rust on Oct. 22 and continued with wins over Crescent City rivals Dillard and Loyola.

Tuesday will also represent the final matches for seniors Edina Dobi and Cassidy Asebroek.

Dobi has been the offensive leader on the Privateer squad this year, averaging 3.48 kills per set with a team-best .284 attack percentage. The middle blocker from Eger, Hungary will likely finish amongst the top 10 all-time in school history in hitting percentage.

The starting setter this year, Asebroek ranks sixth in school history with 1,895 assists to her name. This season, the Vista, Calif. native averages 8.68 assists a set and also paces the team with 27 service aces on the year.

Rust's record was unavailable. Recent results available indicated that the Bearcats defeated Tougaloo 3-0 while suffering losses to Southern-New Orleans (3-1) and Hendrix (3-0) since their 3-0 setback at the Lakefront Auxiliary Gym.

Stillman's is 12-15 entering Tuesday's match. Jamilla McKinnis leads the squad with 2.99 kills a set on a .311 hitting percentage.  Rayniceia Lewis is the leading setter with 3.78 assists a frame while doubling up as the top server with 45 aces on the year.

Updates from Tuesday's matches will be available via Twitter, if internet is available at Rust College. The UNO athletic media relations staff will be handling statistical coverage at Rust and will provide a full recap as soon as possible.
