Lady Privateers Fall in Opener at Monroe

MONROE, La. - ULM stormed out of the gates with a 21-0 run over the first 5:52 of the game on way to a 97-30 victory over the University of New Orleans in the women's basketball opener for both teams on Friday night.

ULM (1-0) stepped up defensively in holding UNO (0-1) to a 26.5 percent outing from the field for the game compared to their own 47.7 percent clip. The hosts forced 35 turnovers.

The Warhawks built a 54-15 advantage at the half and received a game-high 15 points from Sannisha Williams. Larrie Williams and Priscilla Mbiandja added 12 apiece.

Mirjam Sipos, the Lady Privateers' lone scholarship player, scored nine points. Eight players made their collegiate debut for UNO with Megan Buckley leading the newcomers with eight points. 

The Lady Privateers improved as the game went on, improving on their field goal percentage while cutting down on their turnovers in the second half from the first 20 minutes.

UNO will open its home slate on Tuesday against McNeese State at 7 p.m. The Cowgirls dropped their opener to Southern Mississippi on Friday afternoon.
